Awesome :)
My business card will be on display at the exhibition and I dont want people to look at my work Like i looked at all of these. To Me... the only one that made an impression was the colourful geometric design on the right.
None of them made any impact :(
I really hope mine does.
PRODUCING A RANGE - 15 mins Sketch in your Visual Diary or Illustrator
1.Clear rendition of 3 invitation / flyer layouts using the logo & text supplied
2.The design must have space for sponsor logos
3.CDU logo must be on the bottom right – check branding rules
I really liked this version because it looks clean cut and will suit the
covers that other people did.
I hate this. Really do. Its not very good and it looks liked someones
slapped the paper with a few brushes.
Plain white front. This would look plain but it would be quite attention
grabbing.
Other peoples designs were much better. Rachels in particular... The splatters look great, Mark said we'd have to create our own brushes if we chose that one. Billies was also great. Her back and front were similar but sort of inverted.
I think for the cover my favourite would have to be rachels because it looks so arty. For the back.. Prehaps something similar with a lower opacity?
or interted so whatever was white is red and whatevers red is white>??
The change of each logo in this is pretty big. Each has a different BOLD ness or complete and utter failure as a logo. I really like the little man face thingy. Because hes cool. :) They choose a weird font.. and i dont know why.
I think the 360 degree view is too impractical so im going with the headboard.

Rough Sketch:
For the desk im going to bring in my Black Glass and chrome L shaped desk to continue the ongoing sleek theme I am trying to create.
VIDEO:
I imagine conception est grande to look similar to the photos of the offices in this video. Sleek and clean. Alot of the photos appear minimalistic and simple which is what i wanted to incorporate into my design which i feel i did perfectly.
Clear rendition of 3 headline variations for Exhibition 2011
Although I did four, 5 to be exact just an altered one at the top.
My favourite one would have to be
because i spent the most time on it. Although this is a corporate and plain looking headline, I still like it better than any of the others. The 1st version
was changed because Rachel, Warwick, Sunita and Mark all believed that the font was too flimsy and not easily read. So I changed it .
The Painted one was my least favourite because I felt it lacked something.
The Somewhat Ghetto looking graffiti one was just in there for no reason at all but it looks like it could be used for a kids fete poster or a school hip hop dance.
I think this headline appears more like a logo, not a headline.
I know all of my designs were red and black, I did this because red black and white go really well together and it would look quite simple and easily printed.
The class responded most to this design:
It my favourite too :)
Video:
I quite liked this video, apart from the annoying monotone voice, what they said had serious value. Taking about marketability with those visuals had an impact on me because it was clever.
This tool is so sick! .. I wish I had this when I was a kid! You would be able to create really cool gradients on paper! You could scan your pictures in and edit them with hue and saturation to create textured gradient backgrounds.
Draft 2 headline designs for the student exhibition based on:
Title: Ten Squared (written numerically)
Tagline: Art from the Hotlands
Design 01: Design in a style that appeals to a design Industry client
Design 02: Design in a style that appeals to a non-profit arts organization
Then draft your 2 designs in Illustrator or Photoshop if you have time
Incorporate the TAGLINE into both designs
Using a scale of 1 – 10, each group assigns a quantitative rating for all the designs, based on the criteria below

I Liked everyones ideas, they all needed more work as we only had 15 minutes to do the headline.
I found this video :
I thought this video was great in showing how things can be laid out with text and vectors. This will be helpful when creating our headline properly as it will give us ideas about the text and pictures we could use for "ART FROM THE HOTLANDS" . I have never used coral draw but I followed it quite easily and as I watched I translated to illustrator language.
How cool? Its things like this that make design really appealing and it gives you that WOW factor. :)
Design challenge / reflect & refine
Branding 3D Assumptions:
1.Presentation time
2.Production takes time
CHALLENGE:
Presentation time:
I need to allow time to organise a layout for the exhibition, the way I present it must appear to look as if its professional and arty at once not just a one off branding design.. I want to project the pure business side of the branding and let the designs show the the graphic and creative side. I also dont want to make my presentation look too flimsy or small. I want to embody the "less is more" principle.
Production Takes Time:
I NEED to make sure i have enough time for the printing, or production side as it will take a few weeks at the least. I also need to show people that the idea is fun, professional, appealing and witty. If i choose to create something monumentus then i need to make sure i allow for the idea to be formed.
REFINE:
Designs take time:
-- FOCUS
- Have 5 ideas or less, pick one.
- ensure you research so your not left high and dry
- be thorough -
Production Takes Time:
- Dont Leave it to the last minute - Prepare as much as possible
OVERALL:
- Planning is Now my best friend
- eliminate all negative or impossible to solve variables
-
Video:
This is a Film clip for a song called 'The Others' by Tv Rock and Dukes of Windsors. I chose to put this on my blog because its in fast motion and looks like the art takes all of 3:38 minutes. Ha! if only! I love how theres different styles or art at play here, but the singers voice is Extremely annoying. Nonetheless A good film clip about time and the assumptions we make of when we are to reach a deadline.
We did a group exercise called Challenge Assumptions. We were to answer these questions (that only made sense after the 10th time reading it ).
Part 1: Quiz
Q1. Relatives - A doctor in London had a brother in Manchester, who was a lawyer - but the lawyer in Manchester did not have a brother in London who was a doctor. Why? Because She was a woman
Q2. Bottled Money - If you put a small coin piece in an empty bottle and replaced the cork, how would you get the coin out of the bottle without taking out the cork or breaking the bottle? Push the cork into the bottle and retrieve the coin
Q3. The Restaurant Meal - Three women each have two daughters, and they all go into a restaurant for a meal. There are only seven vacant seats in the restaurant, but each has a seat for herself. How do they manage it?
One is a grandmother with two daughters and each of her daughters has two daughters.
Part 2: Mikes Audition
Assumptions:
-Traffic Jams
-4+ Hour drive
-NEEDS 2 hours sleep
-Get Ready
SOLUTION: Drive to the audition and sleep in his car. ( No Traffic )
Design challenge / reflect & refine
Branding Assumptions:
1.Designs take time
2.Production takes time
CHALLENGE:
Designs take time:
My designs will take time to allow for editing and refinement. I hope to have at least 2 full designs by week 6 as it will allow me time to print and create my designs and transform them to 3D objects. Time gets away from me a lot as I get lost in the creative processes, I will challenge myself to stay on target to ensure that I complete my task on time. As there are many aspects of design, typography and layout that I would like to experiment with; I WILL make an effort to no go so deep with my brainstorming ideas. It is here I get lost for time and I will use John Maedas principle SHE. I will list the aspects of design that I wish to use and then Simplify, hide and embody the things that would benefit my design. Time is MY biggest problem so for me to challenge myself on this aspect will be difficult.
Production Takes Time:
Like I said above, TIME is hard for me. I get lost in the moment… For the production side of things I feel this will either harder or easier.. I haven’t decided yet.. I’ve never really experienced production of anything in relevance to my 2D design so im not that sure what problems I could run into other than not allowing myself time to print my designs on mugs, pencil tins, bags, tshirts, waterbottles, card, paper, photopaper and any and everything else! As im not experienced in this area I feel that… I know that… Im going to run into problems. But what they are I cannot say.
REFINE:
Designs take time:
-Focus more on the ‘I will’.. and not so much on the ‘I could’.
-Allow time for problems and don’t dwell on something too long, picking on work is not a good habit.
-Leave it even, work on something else for a while and come back to it.
-SAVE MY WORK CONSTENTLY! & BACK IT UP!
-Never allow myself to get over whelmed, pace myself, like a marathon! ( I hate running )
-Have deadlines, AND STICK TO THEM!
-Take criticism, USE IT.
-Do my work properly. Thorough.
-Simple is better. Less is more. EBRACE THIS CONCEPT IN MY DESIGNS!
- Be kind to my designs, don’t have a tantrum.
Production Takes Time:
-Learn from my mistakes.
-Get the designs to PRINT early to ensure they are ready on time.
-Look at the overall picture of the branding with the 3d objects. Eg does a mug say this is legit?
-Prototypes (sketchy ones) Play with ideas
-Focus on the timeframe
-Pick one or two ideas not seven
-Get help
-Trial and error is the way to go
OVERALL:
-Get it done on time
-Don’t have ANY tantrums and destroy work
-Get in early
-Enjoy it!
I found a cool video on the sped up ageing process! Its pretty good digital work!
I thought this video was really cool. Its similar how the tv show planet earth follows one animal through an entire year through the four seasons.
Its cool how in the video it shows every progression that ANY face has which i think is beautiful cause there isnt anything wrong with looking or getting old.
