Week 2 3D

Today,

We looked at the film below.

This Film is about Theo Jansen, an inventor from the Netherlands. I found his inventions to be really interesting and unique. I love how they walk, it reminds me of crabs and they're sideways walk.

Today we also talked about the links we found for homework, unfortunately I did not find any in the class but I did find one at home:

http://www.spacedesigner3d.com/

This website allows you to design your own house, although you have limited furniture, the program allows you to easily drag walls and design your perfect home.

Today we were set a practical to design a bag for a design student as well as a design that goes on the bag..

These are my Preliminary  sketches..

I thought that i could create a bag the comes in a roll.. and you can zip it up. In addition to the small storage space, the bags will be able to expand and retract into 2 different sizes to suit different carry loads. I feel this idea is great and I would buy this!

For the design on the bag i think ill do something with typography, maybe something similar to my blog background. Possibly caking on facts about design. Im all over the place about what to do. i dont want it to appear full on or busy... What to do!?

Over and Out!

Week 2 2D

Today,

We went over the first weeks class, discussing the email links we all found and collated. I contributed 3 links and a brief description of the ones that i felt would be the most useful to all of the members of the class. After we had Emailed our lecturer our blog links, we were given a practical that took 40mins. We were to create a background for our blogs. We were to incorporate 3 elements into our designs: Shape, Media and style.

I got my idea from this image that I found on the Web, I really liked how the letters that are usually neat and tidy are now havoc; this was the basis of my idea for the practical.

My Design

Design

Process:
Above, is my completed design that I made using adobe illustrator. I did this by typing the entire alphabet in Helvetica and then creating outlines in order to make them directly editable. Then I double clicked on each letter to put the program in isolation mode in order to rotate and move them freely around the page. From here I grouped the letters and then mirrored them to each corner of the page. I then grabbed the anchor points on the T's and joined them together. Lastly I coloured the text grey and selected the letters to spell out D.E.S.I.G.N in red to grab attention.

Description:
This image, I feel incorporates all of the 3 elements that was required to successfully complete this task.

Shape: Letters are shapes not words, letters create words but in this case, letters are scrambled and a word is found.

Media: This design portrays the idea of design through visual communication, I feel that I communicated the idea very well.

Style: This image is very stylish, grey, red and white go extremely well together and I feel that this stylish feel will be the first element that people see on my blog.

My Design #2

Exhibition
The same Design however I changed the red letters from D.E.S.I.G.N to E.X.H.I.B.I.T.I.O.N for my other blog to make my blogs have a consistent theme.

Week 1 3D

Today,

We went over the Unit Information and the expectations of us as Design students.

We went web searching for websites that would be helpful or they reflect 3D design. I found this difficult as to me 2D and 3D go hand in hand. However, Next week I hope to have at least one link that would be useful to us as design students.

I bought a sketchbook in order to plan my ideas for the exhibition, I have been sketching and brainstorming ideas

Most of the day we went over the course outline and how our 2D and 3D classes connect to our exhibition class as per the lack of words.

ODD Research:

I really Love this design! Its cool how the lamp is actually the packaging, I would love to incorporate this into my exhibition designs as this would be very much so incorporating the '3D' design elements were were told we must incorporate into our final design for the exhibition.

Awesomeness will follow if you click me!

Week 1 2D

Today,

We went over the unit information and the assessment overview.

We researched internet sites that would be helpful in 2D design. We compiled a list within the class in a email and shared it among us.

I found these sites:

http://creativeeveryone.com : This website allows you to view exhibitions in the UK or the US. The site also helps you sort within a timeframe or place, search for a type of an event or a favourite theme or genre.

http://www.redsquareagency.com : Is a design agency but theyre website functions more as a blog with information of upcoming news and social events. This website has a laid back approach and gives you advice and info on some important aspects in design.

http://creativejournal.com : This website is a compilation of artists works that fit within a theme. The website shows high res images that are useful to gain ideas as most of the art pieces are abstract and very we executed.

I found each of these websites to have both 3D and 2D Help, that is why I struggled to find more websites solely depicting 3D design.

Here are a few images that I really liked:
